You enter a maximum bid. That is the amount you are willing to pay. If you are contacted on a "second chance" basis you have the right to accept or to refuse. You are not oblilgated to purchase the item at that price. You can at that time offer the seller a lower price or negotiate on shipping. If the seller has a shill who tries to bid the item up to your maximum, so what, that is the price you are willing to pay. Anything under that is bonus.. There really is no scam here.
